With the arrival of the new season, many complain of a phenomenon that affects both men and women equally: hair loss in the fall. On combs and brushes, the number of hairs that get entangled can be seen in much greater numbers, and this often causes alarm.

This, however, happens for very specific reasons and should not scare unless other symptoms are also present, in which case it is advisable to consult a doctor.

Hair loss and change of season

During the summer the hair is subjected to a higher degree of stress than in other periods, especially dyed hair: UVA and UVB rays hit the scalp more, weakening the bulbs, we tend to wash the hair more often due to heat and sweating, in addition to contact with the salt water of the sea or rich in chlorine in swimming pools much more frequent than at other times of the year.

Here, all these factors contribute to the so-called “hair stress” that leads to hair loss in the fall. To this must be added natural causes such as normal hormonal changes during the change of seasons, in addition to the fact that the hair falls out to make room for new ones that are normally replaced.

If, on average, up to a hundred hairs can be lost in one day during the year, speaking of how many hairs fall per day in autumn, the figure can increase. The loss is generalized, it affects the entire hair and is not concentrated in a specific point: in that case, in fact, it could be alopecia and it is better to go to a dermatologist or trichologist for a consultation.

How to avoid hair loss in the fall

Although this is a natural occurrence for the human body, it is possible to slow down or avoid hair loss in the fall. These are simple precautions that everyone can adopt and of which the benefits will be noticed after a few weeks.

First, the habits related to hair washing. Better not to wash your hair too often and never with very hot water when rinsing.

The shampoo must not be aggressive and contain surfactants, preservatives, dyes and silicones but be delicate and preferably of natural origin: we recommend formulations, for example, based on flax seeds or aloe vera, which can also be used as a pack after shampoo.

In the autumn period, it is better to limit the use of the conditioner to only once a week, or suspend its use for this particular moment: the conditioner, in fact, nourishes the hair but at the same time weighs it down. Yes to natural masks based on aloe vera, linseed and even egg.

As soon as washing is finished, it is best to avoid drying with a hairdryer or jets of hot air: gently dab the hair with a cotton or linen towel, then let it dry naturally in the air. To comb, carefully avoid combs and brushes in plastic and metal by opting for those in wood that do not break the hair.

Finally, for those with long hair, it is also important to choose hairstyles that do not stress the hair such as tight tails, chignon or gathered with elastic and hairpins that break the hair and cause it irreparably loss.

Nutrition and nutrition

To slow down hair loss in autumn, you can also act on the internal health of the body, which undoubtedly affects healthy capillary skin. Hydration remains essential, with about two liters of still water needed per day to which sugar-free herbal teas, such as horsetail, are added to strengthen the bulbs.

Cranberry juice (natural, without added sugars or other substances) is also recommended to be consumed without exceeding for hair health. Legumes, nuts, oily fish, eggs and soy are protein-rich foods perfect for helping to have better overall health, and in particular to strengthen the scalp.

Among cereals, however, it is advisable to include oats in your diet. Dark green leafy vegetables are rich in iron and very good for combating hair loss, as are carrots and tomatoes.

Finally, you can take ad hoc supplements such as those based on aloe vera, horsetail, spirulina or a mix of various ingredients: it is necessary, however, to contact your doctor before purchasing and starting to take supplements.
