But what if we told you that there is a method to get perfect curls? Find out how to plop and which hair it is suitable for.

What is plopping

The term plopping derives from the English “to plop” which means to drop, a name with a rather onomatopoeic sound. This is a very popular styling technique for hair care that does not use heat and therefore protects it. Perfect for hair with unruly curls, difficult to dry, which allows you to define them while leaving them fluffy.

It works regardless of the length and cut of your curly hair, from short to longer. By following a few simple steps, you can admire yourself in the mirror with your face framed between soft and silky waves. Reduce drying time, keep frizz at bay and get volume for curly hair that is the envy of!

Prepare the hair for plopping

If you have curly hair, you know that wet is perfect. They appear in beautiful spirals which, however, when dried, often turn into something frizzy and indefinite. But now with the plopping technique having curly hair will no longer be a problem, everything will change, you’ll see! First wash your hair well, apply a small amount of conditioner, better if the product is anti-frizz.

Rinse by adjusting the lukewarm, almost cold temperature to achieve greater shine. Now that they are wet, do not squeeze them or touch them, turn your head upside down and gently shake it from side to side, in this way you will make the excess water fall. Before drying your hair try to get rid of all the knots or after styling you will find them all tangled.

How to plopping

Dab your hair with a towel but do not collect it in the classic turban. Avoid if you can the sponge that tends to absorb too much water and dry the stems, prefer a cotton or linen cloth. Apply an anti-frizz styling product or for curls, it can be either a mousse, a cream or an oil, the important thing is that it is without parabens and silicones to allow for good hydration. Gently use a wide-toothed comb.

At this point take a microfiber towel or an old cotton T-shirt, place it on the table and let it fall over the hair, in the center, starting from the tips and then gradually lowering the head. Do this so that the locks curl around themselves. Pull a flap of the towel or t-shirt towards the nape of your neck and roll the left and right sides around yourself as if it were a candy and then close with a knot at the back. If you use a T-Shirt it will be easier to tie, just roll up the sleeves.

Now relax, leave your hair tied up like this until it is dry inside the turban, or for half an hour if you have neck problems. The t-shirt or microfiber will absorb moisture and dry your hair, without creating that tremendous frizz effect that we all hate. With this technique, those with curly hair can significantly reduce the drying time.

To finish and remove any residual moisture, pass the hairdryer or even better the diffuser. If you want to further protect your hair from heat, you can blow dry it without removing the turban. If you prefer, perform the steps before going to bed by wearing the turban all night. When you wake up you will be ready to face the day happy and confident, thanks to a completely natural wavy hair effect plopping.

Is plopping only good for those with hedgehogs?

Although plopping is a drying technique that works perfectly on curls and waves, it can help give volume to a smooth, limp or damaged hair. With this method it is possible to create waves in a natural way without attacking and drying them with heat. You can try plopping for a special occasion, your hair will look healthy, shiny, without frizz, in soft and sensual waves, ready for a fantastic evening!
