A play of shadows and unexpected dark shades, Shadowing is the new top hair color technique to try this year!
The new hair coloring technique launched by Davines is called shadowing, an exquisitely elegant game between shadows and shades to give liveliness and light to the hair. Let’s find out together what shadowing is, how it is done and who is comfortable with images and look ideas.
WHAT IS SHADOWING
The director of the Davines brand, Tom Connell, one of the most popular hairstylists on the scene, presents us with a coloring technique ready to revolutionize our looks! What does shadowing mean? The English term has the meaning of “shade”, therefore creating shadows with art. In fact, to characterize this technique is a bold contrast of unexpected dark shades, plays of shadows and light ready to rewrite the classic canons of women’s hairstyles!
SHADOWING: HOW TO DO IT
What does shadowing consist of? The technique involves the dark coloring of locks of hair preferably placed in the front or side of the head. If the hair strands around the face are lightened with face framing, the opposite happens with shadowing. For example, on brown hair the front locks are made darker by a couple of tones in order to obtain a color rich in reflections in which the contrasts between deep and light tones give movement and dynamism to the hair, highlighting the features. But Davines also shows us how to get an optimal result on gray hair, to liven up both the looks of the ladies and those of the younger ones who love to experiment. The pixie cut chosen by Tom Connell as a white canvas for his work is embellished with different shades of gray, with darker colored locks that stand out in unexpected points of the hair. The dark “shadows” obtained with this technique make the contrasting light gray stand out even more, with a very interesting full-bodied effect.
SHADOWING TO WHO IS GOOD
Who is this type of hair coloring good for? As we have seen, in their fifties, sixties and in general mature women can give panache and dynamism to the hair with the shadowing technique. Especially if they want to be daring and try a clean change of look and if they prefer short or very short oversized haircuts, as Davines suggests. Since the darker shades move to the front, the diamond face and the round face are the ones that benefit most from the play of shadows that help to optically streamline the features. It is also a perfect technique to give volume to fine hair, ideal both for giving character to long hair cuts as well as medium, short and even very short hair cuts! Shadowing is rightfully one of the hair color trends for winter 2021 and maybe we will also find it among the proposals for spring summer.
