How to get brown hair with cool highlights using natural ingredients, such as kapoor and brown henna
Winter is the season that makes those belonging to the winter palette shine more than ever with beauty. But what to do for us passionate about natural beauty care when the hair dyed with herbal mixtures (for example henna) starts to present that warm coppery red reflection, which fades (especially for the winter cool) that beautiful contrast that we enhances?
As we know, the experts in armocromia condemn for us winter the warm reflection that, in naturally dyed hair, is really difficult to keep under control. But don’t worry, I’ve spent the last two months experimenting with my hair and I’m ready to tell you about the best result I’ve achieved for hair with a very intense cold reflection!
Let’s start from the fact that I have never used chemical dyes, so each treatment was applied on the hair already dyed, but only with herbal mixtures. So if you have hair colored with chemical dyes, I cannot guarantee the effect the treatments have had on my hair! In this case it is better to ask the hairdresser for advice or to those who have already done it. Furthermore, the color result changes according to the starting color: the darker the hair, the darker the final result will be. Usually on the packages there are the different intensities that can be obtained compared to the starting color, so do not worry.
Dark brown dye: chestnut henna (mix of herbs, including lawsonia, indico, katam, which you can find on the market) + kapoor.
The Ayurvedic powder of Kapoor comes from the roots of the ginger plant, has incredible antisetic and stimulating properties, it is also capable of providing resistance and brightness to brittle and dull hair. In our recipe, the properties of kapoor are also combined with those of henna, a substance obtained from “dyeing herbs” to which Henna (Lawsonia Inertis) also belongs, with coloring and astringent properties, capable of giving shine, strength and volume to the hair. It also helps to control sebum production and dandruff, trust me, it is the superstar of hair treatments.
To prepare a dyeing pack, with cold reflections, which also gives strength and volume to the hair, start by mixing 50/60 grams of kapoor with water at 70/80 degrees, until you get a mixture similar to yogurt. Leave to macerate for about 20 minutes, and in the meantime prepare the henna powder with the same procedure. Usually in the packaging of the products there are the preparation instructions, it is worth taking a look, but basically they are all more or less the same. After 20 minutes, mix the two blends and add a little water if necessary.
At this point you can decide between two possibilities: either wash your hair first, dry it, apply everything on clean and dry hair and then rinse without shampoo (the only drawback, the smell that remains on the hair for the next 24 hours may not please you. ) or you can apply the mixture on unwashed hair (but not too dirty eh!) and wash afterwards with a single application of diluted neutral shampoo, but you lose a little color and intensity.
Put on the disposable gloves because the mixture is really powerful and start applying the mixture on the hair strands, massaging the scalp a little too. Don’t be afraid to abound! For long hair I use 60 grams of kapoor and 60 of henna. Once the application is complete, you can cover your hair with kitchen wrap or a cap and then make a nice turban with an old towel. The shutter speed ranges from a minimum of 50 minutes to a maximum of 3 hours, depending on the intensity of color you want to achieve: the longer you keep it, the darker your hair will be. However, keep in mind that the kapoor dries your hair a little, if you already have dry hair I do not recommend that it is applied longer than 90 minutes.
Continue rinsing your head according to the method you have chosen from those proposed above (with or without shampoo). I recommend a last rinse with water and vinegar which gives shine and softness. I let my hair dry in the air for a while and then complete it with the hair dryer at a very low temperature.
Now, tell me if your hair isn’t a bomb! Bright, voluminous, with cold and intense reflections.
P.S. 48 hours later I always do an avocado mask to nourish the lengths since my hair tends to dry out a bit.
