The cosmetic market offers a wide range of hair-specific oils. Rich in vitamins and essential oils you can mix with each other or use a specific one according to your needs. On the shelves you can find pure or mixed even with silicones. Each of them has specific properties that make them, more or less, suitable for different needs and types of hair.
The most common are coconut oil, argan oil, almond oil, jojoba or avocado oil. There are also extra-virgin olive oil, linseed oil and castor oil.
Coconut oil is certainly the best known and used.
Rich in protein, it is recognizable and appreciated for its fragrance. It is especially suitable for moisturizing hair. At the same time, the oil is able to penetrate the structure of the hair, from the root to the tips. In this way, it also nourishes and repairs damaged hair. This retains moisture by restoring body and shine to the hair. Vitamin E present in the oil also helps to grow hair in a healthy way. It also has antimicrobial properties. In fact, it also contains lauric acid and capric acid to prevent hair loss. It is able to reduce dandruff and also to remove lice.
This hair oil is the lightest of all and therefore also suitable for oily hair.
Originally from Morocco, the benefits of argan oil are varied. In addition to being suitable for removing stains and scars, it can be used on our hair. Rich in antioxidants, essential fatty acids, proteins and vitamins, it is effective to moisturize, nourish, soften and reduce the unsightly frizz effect from the hair.
Even castor oil, like the previous ones, is an ally for the beauty and care of our hair, as well as for our well-being. Being very thick, before using this oil for hair it is necessary to dilute it and use it in small doses.
Thanks to the omega-9 fatty acids, a highly moisturizing and emollient component, this oil is especially indicated on dry and frizzy hair. It also counteracts the formation of split ends.
Castor oil also has anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties. For this reason it is able to protect the scalp from infections, often due to hair loss, fortifies the hair and facilitates re-growth.
How to Use Hair Oil
Hair oil is used differently according to need. It can remain in place overnight or be rinsed after a short time.
It is used before shampooing, it can be used as a balm or as a finish on the tips.
The oil should be applied to the entire head, from roots to ends; after having distributed it, perform a full length massage.
If dried, the oil on the hair, is applied by doing a compress before the shampoo. On greasy hair, instead, after moistening the hair, it is applied on them and proceeds with styling. Damaged hair, on the other hand, requires applying the oil and leaving it in place overnight. In this case, it is useful to collect them under a cap or a bandana for hair.
If the hair is curly or frizzy, you must apply the oil, lock by lock, after shampooing and damp hair. The same criterion is used if you want to polish your hair. In this case, however, we must remember not to use hot plates or irons on the hair to not burn them.
