Let’s find out what are the causes and remedies for greasy hair

Sometimes it happens to wash your hair in the morning and to see them in the evening with a dull, flat but above all unctuous appearance. But why does it happen if we washed them only a few hours ago? Unfortunately, greasy hair is a rather widespread discomfort, especially for those who live in the city, where stress and air pollution contribute a lot to oily hair.

Those who suffer are familiar with the unpleasant sensation of shiny and greasy hair, which is often difficult to manage. The causes can be many, related to genetic factors, feeding or products used for washing and styling. We take the situation in hand and try to understand what contributes to the problem of greasy hair.

What Are the Causes of Greasy Hair?

Hormonal factors, one of the causes of oily hair

We often ask ourselves why oily hairs, and we tend to wash them more often, thinking about solving the problem. In reality, oily hair is triggered by an excessive production of sebum from the sebaceous glands, present in the scalp. The glands, following a hormonal impulse, secrete sebum in a higher quantity than normal, making the hair appear dull and greasy.

The production of sebum is essential for the protection of the hair from atmospheric and external agents. But an alteration of hormone levels, which leads to more production than normal, weighs on the normal role of sebum.

As in any excess, even in this case there could be consequences that go beyond the aesthetic aspect. In men, for example, excessive testosterone activity can even lead to hair loss.

The Power in Oily Hair

Not least, responsible for oily hair could be feeding. An incorrect diet, consisting of an excess of alcohol, fatty foods and sugars, contributes significantly to the problem of oily hair. Focus on a healthy daily diet, consisting of seasonal products, yogurt, dried fruit, centrifuged vegetables rich in folic acid, vitamins and minerals. Do not miss the right dose of vegetables, meat, egg yolks and cereals, sources of zinc, iron, vitamin H and B vitamins.

Wrong habits

Hormonal dysfunction and nutrition are not the only causes of oily hair. Sometimes we make mistakes without even realizing it.
Here are some tips to follow…

  • Choose a mild shampoo or detergents free of aggressive surfactants, which do not completely eliminate the sebum but reduce its production. In this way, if you need to wash your hair every day, you can do it without running the risk of worsening the natural condition of your hair.
  • When washing your hair, try not to use too hot but lukewarm water, treating the last rinse with cold water. The same goes for when you start styling: with the hot jet the drying times are reduced, but it does not help to preserve the health of oily hair.
  • In the case of oily hair, the choice of some masks or balms, as well as an incorrect use, is sometimes counterproductive, since the hair could appear even more greasy. Try to apply disentangling products or soften the hair only on the tips. In this way the sebaceous balance of the scalp will be preserved.

5 Diy Remedies for Oily Hair

Bicarbonate

We often hear about bicarbonate for the most varied household uses but, perhaps, few know that it is an excellent remedy for greasy hair. Pour 2-3 teaspoons on the hair and leave on for about 15 minutes. Then remove the bicarbonate with a comb and repeat the operation once every 15 days.

Clay

The clay has many healing properties, and is used in various cases in the products of herbalists and cosmetologists. Its wealth of mineral salts and its emulsifying capabilities make it perfect for making a greasy hair mask. Dilute a handful of powdered clay in a glass of water, apply the compress to the hair and leave for 10 minutes. Rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water.

Lemon juice and apple vinegar

Lemon juice and apple vinegar are natural ingredients renowned for being real natural degreasers that do not compromise the health of the hair, on the contrary, make them brighter and healthier. Two lemons or apple vinegar are enough to apply to wet hair: massage your head, taking care to also affect the scalp. Rinse after making circular movements on the entire head.

Mint and rocket

Mint, as well as rocket, are excellent allies against greasy hair. After crushing a few leaves of mint with a mortar, boil them in a saucepan with a glass of water. Let it cool and add a couple of tablespoons of apple vinegar. Apply to the skin, massage and rinse everything.
