The powder known as henna is easy to find in herbal medicine or pharmacy, and represents several variations. The traditional recipe is light / dark red henna, which is obtained from the Lawsonia inermis plant
Natural coloring substances such as henna were used by Egyptian women 5,000 years ago to color the nails of the hands and feet and the palms of the hands orange red. Henna powder is obtained from the leaves of a subtropical shrub, henna, a type of salicaria that grows only in Africa and Asia.
The leaves are harvested in autumn and contain the pigment used to color the hair. In addition, the leaves in spring do not contain any red coloring substances, instead they are rich in tannic acid with healing properties. This is why uncolored henna powder (pharmacy, drugstore and herbalist’s shop) is particularly suitable for hair care.
You have to apply it regularly (every 4-6 weeks) especially if your hair is brittle.
HENNA WRAP
Depending on the intensity of color you want, leave the pack to act for 1 to 3 hours.
APPLICATION
Mix the powder as indicated on the package and distribute the mixture on dry hair. Collect your hair in a plastic or aluminum cap. Wrap a large terry towel around your head like a turban.
TIME OF ACTION
Depending on how long the pack is left on, different shades of red can be obtained from brown or black hair. Henna dyes in a particularly delicate way because, unlike chemicals, the color does not penetrate the cortical layer but simply covers the surface of the hair.
For blond hair, the situation is different, if you want to dye with henna it is better to try the color on a lock of hair before proceeding; if you don’t like the result, the color goes away after a few shampoos.
However, there is also blond henna: also in this case it is an absolutely natural product, able to lighten and make the hair stronger and healthier. However, to obtain this blend, a combination of different plants is used. The henna lasts for several months.
